The Arrigo Boito Wind Band
Known as Academy of Music of the city of Fossano since 1789, it was constituted as Philharmonic Academy in 1841 and changed to Philharmonic Society in 1883, year adopted as foundation of the current wind band. In 1921, with the authorization of the senator Albertini, testamentary executor of the heirs of the composer Arrigo Boito, it assumed the actual appellation of School of Music Arrigo Boito.
In its history it has achieved a lot of appreciations, some of which very prestigious like the diploma at the International Music Concourse in 1898 signed by Giuseppe Verdi and the diploma at the National Concourse for Wind Bands in 1934 signed by Petro Mascagni.
In 1974 it obtained the third award at the national contest of Fontanetto Po; it was the first classified at the national concourse “City of Condove” and it obtained the second award at the national concourse “City of Cascina”. In 2000 it participated at the International Festival of Wolfsberg (Carinzia-Austria); in October 2004 it performed at Palma De Majorca and on December of the same year it was invited to play the Christmas concert at the “Piccolo Regio” theatre in Turin.
At its direction, notable teachers has been alternated; we could remember: Chibbaro, Andrietti, Allione and now it is directed by Prof. Gianpiero Brignone.
The band is constantly attended by new components, some of them graduated. It represents an associative, artistic and cultural attraction of sure interest and it is doubtless, for preparation, interpretive capabilities and valence on its programs, one the best and more appreciated wind bands of the region of Piedmont, Italy.
